After snorkling around in the sea right next to my house for a few days, I decided to try something more difficult, so I got myself some diving stuff for the little amount of money I had.
And then I took a cab boat out to the best diving spot for newbies.
I swam to the bottom and it was so amazing.
I saw fish everywhere and corals. I was the only one there, so I just wished nothing would happen.
I catched some fish and swam around for a long time. I just had to keep an eye on the air, so I wouldn't drown.
I even found a cave. But I was too afraid to explore. This first time I just wanted to swim around and look at all these beautiful things.
Like this school of fish. Now I could watch them so close.
I even saw jellyfish! Hopefully they weren't poisonous.
After like two hours, the air ran out, so I had to go to the surface to rest for a while.
But when I finally could swim back to this place, I decided to explore that cave.
I mean, what's the worst that could happen?
---------------
And as I thought, nothing did happen. I just found some gems and shells and beautiful stones. I even saw an eel, but I swam away from it as fast as I could.
When I got out, I saw a weird shadow on the seabed. It looked like a human, but still not.
I looked up and saw.. a mermaid!
I was shocked. I'd heard of them in fairytales, and I'd even heard there would be mermaids here on Isla Paradiso, but I never believed those rumors.
"Wait!" I tried to scream, but as everyone knows, it's hard to scream under water.
But he turned around, as like he would have heard me.
I got to him, all exhausted. He looked at me, worried. Maybe he thought I would drown or something.
But then he turned around and swam away.
"NO! STOP!" I shouted, but it just sounded like "Bleuhguhh! Glkotobp!" in my ears.
But apperently, this mermaid understood me. He turned around and watched me as I waved to greet him. I didn't want him to swim away again.
Since I didn't want to talk more, I tried sign language. I wasn't good at it though. I wanted to tell him about all the things that I'd seen below the surface.
But he just got scared. Maybe I said something wrong. He maybe thought I meant "shark!" or something like that.
I shook my head. I didn't want to scare him. Instead I poked at a clownfish, swimming a bit away from us.
It looked so sad as it was swimming there. I just stared at it. Poor clownfish, it looked so sad, so sad. Maybe it hadn't any friends. I almost got all tearful.
I actually started crying a bit, and I think that was enough for the poor mermaid. He just looked at me as he turned around and swam away.
But I mean, just look at that clownfish!
